When I step into Civil Alchemy, I know I’ll have a tough time leaving without a bag full of must-haves. This über-cool general store has something special for everyone on my list. Designed as a lifestyle retail company offering functional, quality, and inspired goods, it’s become a brick & mortar institution in St. Louis.

The founder is Kelley Barr, who in 2015 sold K. hall designs, an international personal care and home fragrance company with multiple company-held retail stores. From humble beginnings as a Michigan candle-maker, Kelley has been steadily building businesses based on the curation of timeless home design.

Among a chic selection of women’s and men’s apparel, Civil Alchemy has its own brand of housewares, accessories and specialty foods — all created in-house. And my favorite part of the boutique is the self-serve flower bar where I can pick-up an arrangement or make one myself. If I’m feeling really crafty, CA offers a flower arranging workshop.

The most recent addition to the roster is the Civil Alchemy Truly Floral Blue Gin, the first of a planned trilogy of floral gins distilled in Defiance, Missouri. Fashion, flowers and a cocktail? Yes!
